Small Business MTD

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is changing the way sole traders and landlords report income to HMRC. Instead of filing one annual Self Assessment tax
return, individuals affected by MTD will need to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates using HMRC-approved software.

At Focal Business Group, we help small businesses, landlords and selfemployed individuals prepare for MTD with simple, affordable support packages designed around your needs.

What is Making Tax Digital?

Making Tax Digital is a UK government initiative designed to modernise the tax system.

Under MTD, you’ll need to:

Keep digital records of your income and expenses

Submit quarterly updates to HMRC

Complete a final year-end declaration

MTD for VAT is already mandatory. MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) is being introduced in phases:

From April 2026

Sole traders and landlords with income over
£50,000

From April 2027

Income over £30,000

From April 2028

 Income over £20,000
